In regions of high intensity of toroidinos, the seething plasma of toroidinos will manifest as intense energy sources, a representation of which is shown as the reddish ball in the figure below.
The fact that there is a region of energy that is more intense than the energy in the surrounding regions means that there will be an energy gradient between that region and the surrounding regions, just as there was between pressure cells in the analogy of the weather patterns.
Briefly put, sources of energy are intensifications of toroidinos which create an energy gradient that originates from the source and spreads throughout the universe. The question is: how fast does the energy gradient spread?
At this stage in the development of our hypothesis we have to assume that the energy gradient cannot propagate faster than the speed of light. However, for purposes of explanation let us use a domestic example. When we turn on the electrical supply to an incandescent light bulb a gradient between the light and the rest of the room immediately exists.
Based on this example, it would initially seem that once the energy source is created, the gradient with the rest of the universe would exist immediately, however, this is something we will have to leave for the moment and return to later. Suffice to say that a gradient exists before any radiation occurs.
Energy source and energy gradient |

| The energy and consequently the curvature and the gradient—represented by the red line graph in the figure above—all decrease exponentially to asymptotically approach zero. Another way to look at this process is that the gradient creates an environment conducive to the origination of toroidinos along the path towards which the energy is directed.
Now that we have a general hypothesis about how the world is structured and having learnt that, arising from this hypothesis, ‘mass’ is not what we have generally regarded it to be, we will investigate how it is that some of the other more common phenomena are not what they are generally regarded to be, in particular, ‘motion without movement’ and ‘force without force’. Then, in terms of the rationalizations discovered, we will go on with the explanation of inertia and momentum in those terms.
